Sean L. Walton, Esq.
Biography
Sean Walton Jr., Founding Partner of Walton + Brown LLP in Columbus, Ohio, has reshaped accountability standards in American policing by securing the first known murder indictment of an on-duty officer in the death of a pregnant woman (Ta’Kiya Young) and the nation’s first murder indictment of a police officer without video or eyewitnesses (Casey Goodson Jr.), followed by a record $7 million settlement. Alongside partner Chanda Brown, he has delivered multiple seven and eight-figure results across wrongful death, personal injury, and employment discrimination cases, including $5.75 million for 2020 protest victims—then the largest protest settlement nationally—and the two highest racial discrimination settlements for Ohio police officers. He forced transparency into the courtroom itself, pushing Columbus’s first police shooting civil jury trials in fifteen years, proving that cases others believed impossible to charge, try, or resolve can become moments of real consequence.
Education
A Coca-Cola Darwin T. Turner Scholar, Sean graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, focusing on African American Studies. His legal journey continued at Capital University Law School, where he was a Presidential Merit Scholar, later being celebrated as the 2020 Graduate of the Last Decade by the school’s alumni association.
Professional Associations and Memberships
Beyond settlements and verdicts, Sean serves on the Boards of Trustees for both the Ohio and American Associations for Justice, Axon’s Ethics Advisory Council, and teaches civil rights at Capital University Law School.
In every case and in every room, Sean Walton Jr. has made a career of refusing to let America settle for anything less than the justice it promises.
