MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the Central Ohio Association for Justice. This 50 year old organization consists of lawyers practicing in central Ohio and who represent the interests of individuals in a variety of practice areas including consumer law, criminal defense, domestic relations, employment, ethics and professional responsibility, medical malpractice, personal injury, probate, and workers compensation.

We offer the following benefits to our members:

1) Bi-monthly membership meetings which are offered to members without charge. These meetings will continue to be held at The Bluestone (formerly known as BoMA) in downtown Columbus. In addition to the opportunity to interact with colleagues and Judges, members will hear from knowledgeable and relevant speakers which will cover a variety of interesting topics.

2) A Trial Practice Seminar with the CBA and the annual Ethics and Substance Abuse Seminar which are offered to members at a discounted rate.

3) COAJ Listserv and Website available only to members. The Listserv provides a member with access to every other member to exchange ideas and resources to assist in their practice. The Website contains a deposition bank available to members only. The website will soon include profiles of a Past President, New Member, Sustaining Member and summaries and materials from membership meetings.

4) COAJ Sponsors that provide members with discounted rates for professional services including experts, investigation, subpoena services, witness location, website design and marketing, document management, and legal directory services.

5) Publications and substantive practice area updates provided to members through printed and online publications and discussions at membership meetings.

6) Judicial Screenings for Franklin, Delaware and Licking Counties will be held this year and members are encouraged to participate.

New lawyers and law students have access to an additional benefit of membership. COAJ has developed a mentoring program which pairs volunteer members with law students and young lawyers. We are confident this will provide new lawyers with valuable insight from experienced practitioners.

In addition to the benefits provided to our members, COAJ reaches out to serve the community through presentations about the legal process. COAJ members regularly speak to local schools and civic organizations to provide presentations on the judicial branch of government. This has, and will continue to be, a great opportunity for members to interact with, and provide information to, the non-legal community.

COAJ is proud to promote the ideals of justice, service and professionalism. On behalf of the COAJ Board and current members, I personally invite you to become a member. Please feel free to email me at kweis@weislawoffice.com or call me at (614) 895-1116 to talk more about COAJ and your membership with us.

Sincerely,

Karen D. Weis

COAJ President
